Understanding gemstones can be a rewarding experience, especially if that knowledge is shared in simple language and in a truly passionate fashion. In this new program, AIGS and Rui Galopim de Carvalho will take you through a series of short, exciting videos introducing you to the world of ruby.

The learning outcomes and expectations are simple and cover the main aspects of ruby as a gemstone, from basic mineralogy, symbology and terminology, to its history as a gem, not forgetting the role of spinel, main occurrences, the most relevant quality factors, treatments, synthetics and care recommendations.

This program does not substitute for the more technical and advanced gemological courses, but it will surely give participants a broader and passionate understanding of ruby as a highly desirable gemological product with a significant historical and cultural heritage.
