Demantoid Garnet — Its horsetail inclusion and various origins

AIGS Gem Tips (FREE Webinar) - Demantoid Garnet - Its horsetail inclusion and various origins

We are pleased to invite Masaki Furuya to give a talk on Demantoid Garnet — Its horsetail inclusion and various origins.

The demantoid garnet is one kind of gemstone with a lot of attractions. It is a beautiful vivid green gemstone, like a high quality emerald. Its history is dramatic as found in the days of the Russian Empire, lost for 100 years under the communist time and rediscovered around 2002, which seems to be aroused from a century of sleep. Its gemmological feature captures the maniac fan of gemstones. Its unique horsetail inclusion is beautiful by itself.

Demantoids from some localities do not have horsetail inclusions but it has strong fire which makes it look like a different gemstone.

In this webinar, besides the general features of the demantoid, the horsetail inclusion is introduced as the key feature of the Russian origin. Though Russian demantoid is the most famous for horsetail inclusions, other origins such as Iran, Canada, Pakistan and USA, also contain this inclusion. Also, the features of various origins will be shown to explain as different attractions of demantoid garnets.
